Early Wins: How Workday Is Transforming Our Work

February 5, 2025

Change is rarely easy, but as the University community navigates the initial weeks of Workday implementation, we are already seeing bright spots emerging as departments and individuals experience new efficiencies and capabilities.

Samantha Leggett, director of budgets and operations in the Jepson School of Leadership Studies says, "The reporting functionality in Workday has significantly improved my ability to access meaningful data. I'm excited about this new level of transparency that's allowing me to efficiently pull and analyze important information."

Members of our community are sharing the positive impacts of Workday's features, offering a glimpse of the improvements that lie ahead as all of us become more familiar with system.

Thomas Farrar, IS procurement coordinator, says, "I am a huge fan of the automation in Workday. Approvals go to the right person without needing to send them an email. And the user interface is more intuitive than Banner and the system we had in my previous job."

In our first month, 98% of staff, 84% of faculty, and 76% of student employees have loggged into Workday, and more than 1,200 employee self-service tasks have been completed, including updating personal information, starting a requisition, or requesting time off. Additionally, more than 21,000 time clock events have taken place in Workday, with only 1% being manually entered by a manager or timekeeper!

The Workday@Richmond team looks forward to continuing to support access and familiarity with Workday as a new and efficient way of doing business at the University of Richmond.
