Workday Feature: Request Absence (Time Off)

November 11, 2024

In Workday, absence and time off are broad terms used to cover any time away from work from your normal schedule, such as vacation, sick, jury duty, or bereavement. Leave and leave-of-absence are terms used to cover extended time away from work, such as military leave, parental leave, or family leave (FMLA). This article covers how to view your absence balances and how to request an absence.

Today, you ask your manager for time off and later enter the approved time off in BannerWeb. Through Workday, you will be able to request time off within the system for your manager to approve in advance, and once approved, that time off will automatically be entered as time off in the relevant pay period.

To view your absence balance, start from the Workday homepage by selecting the navigation Menu at the top left of the toolbar. Select Absence. Under View, select Account Balance, select the As of date, and press OK.

Click View to access your absence balance

Select the balance date.

As you view your balances, remember that the values displayed are based on the Balance as of Date you entered. You can use this feature to calculate how many vacation days you may have at some date in the future.

To request absence from the Workday homepage, select the navigation Menu and slect the Request Absence application.

Select Request Absence.

Select the day(s) on the calendar you want to request. In this example, two days are selected as indicated by the black circles. Click Continue.

Select your absence dates

Click the menu icon to select a Type of Absence (e.g., Vacation).

Select the type of leave you are requesting

Enter the hours you plan to take of per day in the Hours (Daily) field, enter an optional Comment, then Submit Request.

Enter leave hours per day

That's it! There are additional options, such as uploading documentation for jury duty. Once you submit your request, it will go to your manager for approval. Managers can visit this issue's Manager's Corner to learn how to approve time off in Workday.
