Training
Workday training sessions have been designed to equip the end-users in our University community with the knowledge to navigate Workday with confidence.
Training will be available in several ways: live in-person sessions, live virtual sessions (Zoom), and pre-recorded videos.

Essentials Courses
All employees should start their training journey here with ONE Workday Essentials courses.
**Please note that the "Workday Essentials for Managers" course is inclusive of all material covered in the "Workday Essentials for Staff" and "Workday Essentials for Faculty" courses. In order for our training team to acommodate as many employees as possible, we ask that employees limit their registration to ONE Essentials course at this time.

Workday Essentials for Faculty
This 60-minute course is intended for UR faculty members who do not supervise any staff members. Participants will learn how to navigate Workday’s self-service features, enabling them to manage personal information, update contact details, and complete tasks such as reviewing pay, and approving student employee time.
This course is initially being offered in-person and virtually. A video version will be available online soon. -
Workday Essentials for Staff
This 90-minute course is intended for UR staff members who are individual contributors. Participants will learn to effectively navigate Workday’s self-service features, enabling them to manage personal information, update contact details, and complete tasks such as reviewing pay and managing time off.
This course is initially being offered in-person and virtually. A video version is available below. -
Workday Essentials for Managers
This 90-minute course is intended for managers who supervise staff members at UR. Participants will learn how to use Workday’s self-service features as well as how to view their team’s information, review and approve time and time off requests, and how to initiate various manager requests and processes.

Workday Essentials for Student Employees
Intended for student employees, these job aids and brief videos introduce student employees to Workday’s mobile features, enabling them to manage their work-related tasks efficiently. Participants will learn to log hours, apply for jobs, and set up direct deposit.

After starting with a Workday Essentials course, employees can then choose their own adventure with these expanded learning courses.

Workday for Hiring Managers
This course is intended for managers responsible for hiring new staff members. Participants will learn how to submit a job requisition, review candidate applications, and move candidates through the interview and hire process.
Participants are encouraged to attend Workday Essentials for Managers prior to attending this course. -
Workday for Managers of Student Employees
This course is intended for staff and faculty who directly supervise student employees at UR. Participants will learn how to recruit and hire student employees through Workday, how to review and approve time, and other key manager functions.
Participants are encouraged to attend or view the appropriate Workday Essentials course prior to attending this course.

Workday Finance Fundamentals
This course is intended for all UR employees who make purchases as a part of their job. The course reviews finance functions that are available to all employees including how to purchase items and receive goods, as well as create an expense report for reimbursement.
Participants are encouraged to attend or view the appropriate Worday Essentials course prior to attending this course.
Role-Based Courses
The third segment of training has been designed for individuals in specialized roles on campus. For example, division/school budget directors are known as Cost Center Managers in Workday. All role-based courses are underway and employees expected to take part will be contacted to sign up for their applicable session(s).

Workday for Cost Center Managers
This course is intended for Cost Center Managers. The course reviews budget management with a heavy emphasis on fiscal reporting.

Workday for Timekeepers
This course is intended for timekeepers across campus. This course will introduce participants to time-tracking basics such as reviewing and editing time and absence for employees, as well as related reporting.
Participants are encouraged to attend or view the appropriate Worday Essentials course prior to attending this course. -
Workday for Procurement Specialists
This training focuses on procurement processes, teaching participants how to manage purchases and supplier requests through Workday. Key topics include creating purchase requisitions and handling supplier information.
Participants are encouraged to attend or view the appropriate Worday Essentials course and Workday Finance Fundamentals prior to attending this course. -
Workday for HR Specialists
This course is intended for staff working in the school dean’s offices supporting faculty HR transactions. Participants will learn about the school-specific roles in the system and review the tasks most frequently initiated and approved by these roles. An overview of the ongoing training and support model will also be provided.
Participants are encouraged to attend or view the appropriate Workday Essentials course prior to attending this course.
Open Labs
Open Labs are an opportunity for employees to log into Workday and explore its functionality. Job Aids will be available for employees to utilize and Workday team members will be present to answer questions. If you like to figure things out on your own, or want to practice what you've learned in a Workday training course, consider dropping by an Open Lab. No registration needed, just come on over!
